I finally found a sense of direction and it feels freakin great.
As a creative person and an entrepreneur, I am a multi-passionate person.
I like making art (in bunch of different mediums), I enjoy photography, and I really, really love writing (newsletters, articles, books etc). Teaching is also another LOVE. Plus then you also know I have this thing for Manitoulin Island. Let’s not forget reading well, anything related to books. Plus home decor, and thrifting. Wait, I forgot nature and the outdoors and hiking, that as well.
So yes, a multi-passionate person.
When building my business, it naturally included many of these interests of mine. It started with artwork that was inspired by the things I love: lakes and maps and trees. As my business grew, many times I sat back and thought about how to move forward with different areas or interests and until last year, - I thought that having them all under my brand name, Heirloom Island was the easiest and best solution.
Summertime last year as I was busy writing my hiking book about Manitoulin Island I began to wonder if having everything I did and offered under one ‘umbrella brand’ was still the best way to go. I looked at my website around this time and really thought about how visitors would feel when they landed on my page. Was it actually clear what I had to offer? If I was being really honest, I don’t think so. And so this is when I decided it was time to segment things. It wasn’t a quick process. I sat in that uncomfortable ‘thinking about how the heck to do it all’ stage for a long time (as in, months).
Time has passed and I’m happy to say I have it figured out! I am feeling very, very good about this new sense of direction with my business.
HEIRLOOM ISLAND
My beloved brand, Heirloom Island, will be getting a wee bit of a reorganization and glow-up. This lovely lady will be a shop and host all the lovely things. I’m feeling so inspired to have a clear vision for the future of my art and brand - and can’t wait to see what lies ahead!
THE SCHOOL FOR MODERN MAKERS
Since coaching and offering courses for creatives has become a big part of what I do, this new website will be dedicated to just that. It’s where students will login to my signature course, The Modern Maker Method, and where all of the courses I offer will be available. A an exciting new section will be home to resources and templates to make business simple (and fun!).
MUST SEE MANITOULIN
With my second Manitoulin-themed book due out later this spring, it was time for website focussing on this. Here you’ll find a blog filled with fantastic articles, a directory of Manitoulin businesses (if you are business interested in joining, find the details here), and links to my Manitoulin books as well as free island-themed resources.
💫 HERE IS WHERE I NEED YOUR HELP 💫
As I move forward with this newly sparkly organized business, I want to make sure that I am sending my truly lovely newsletters to people who want to receive them.
So, if you’ve received this email, you are subscribed to This Heirloom Life - thanks so much for being here. Moving forward this newsletter will be about my art and products, creativity, books, thrifting, and other things that spark JOY. If you are happy to be here, YAY. If you aren’t, please unsubscribe - just scroll to the bottom of this page (no hard feelings!).
If you’re interested in learning about running a totally brilliant and joyful creative business, you’ll want to join The Field Guide for the Modern Maker.
And, if you are a lover of Manitoulin Island, you’ll want to sign up to receive Dispatches from the Island. This is sent monthly and is a round-up that includes news, lovely free things, plus Manitoulin stuff that you won’t want to miss.
There are seriously no hard feelings if you unsubscribe to some (or all) of my newsletters. I only want to be in your inbox if these newsletters bring you joy or you find them helpful. I unsubscribe to stuff ALL OF THE TIME and seriously, it’s better for me if you unsubscribe than just delete the emails from your inbox (doing that just sends bad vibes to my email newsletter provider which I’d like to avoid).
At this point, I’d like to extend a HUGE THANK-YOU to you, yes you lovely human - for sticking with me on this journey! Sometimes I seriously don’t know what the heck I am doing, I fumble along, and then when I get there (where ever that is) it’s so nice to have folks who have been along for the ride with me and are still here smiling!
As always, I love hearing from you (it makes my day!) so please do leave a comment, hit reply, or send me a message on Instagram.
Have a wonderful week!
